The Changing Landscape of Communication

My favourite person/teammate is living in another country. Where we make it work and see each other occasionally, there are some more intentional things we need to do to keep ourselves connected.

We are mindful of talking every day, default to video, and have an app (Agape) where we must answer a question about ourselves every day. That has been particularly helpful, and if we were in the city, we probably wouldn’t do this. I cannot wait until the end of the year when we will be together full-time; until then, we know this challenging time is worth it for what is to come.

So many organizations are working in multiple environments, either hybrid or completely remote; it’s harder to stay connected when you’re not seeing people every day or regularly, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It means we must think of doing different things to create the connections we would get at the coffee machine. If I have learned anything from my current situation, big things can be important, but little things can mean more. This month, I have shared some tips on creating more virtual connections in the tools section.
