The Lesson is Always Kindness

February can mean different things; I am going to focus on love. Love and kindness, to be exact. When I took the VIA Character Strengths Survey, it told me my number one strength was kindness.

To say I had an adverse reaction to this would be an understatement. I looked at everyone in my group and said, "But isn't everyone kind? How is that a strength?" They looked at me, laughed, and almost in unison, said NO!

There began my search to discover more about kindness, and once I found this definition: "Kindness is lending someone your strength vs. highlighting their weakness." I became a lot more ok with it. However, my reaction showed me that I needed to think about kindness correctly; it also highlighted that I was not always kind to myself. Just like with love, kindness must start with you as well.

So, as we close this month of love, what are you doing to be kind to yourself? When you are kind to yourself, it is easier to be kind to others, and kindness, lending others your strength, is the true sign of a team that works well together.
